Running Eagle Falls Nature Trail

Running Eagle Falls Trailhead Signpost

It's damp outside, as it's just rained.  Rain and cold are common all summer in Glacier National Park, but the wetness around you has left the air with a clean smell and everything around you dark and rich in color.

You turn to the small wooded area where the trail begins.

You were in the mood for a nice short trail with a beautiful, relaxing view, and Running Eagle Falls Nature Trail is just that at a short 0.6 miles. This trail in Glacier National Park leads to a small set of falls tucked into a jagged rock face. Sometimes, these falls are called the "Trick Falls" because water can come either from over the top of the cliff or bubbling up from the ground.

As you walk up to the signpost, you read the story of Running Eagle, the only Blackfoot Tribeswoman who was given a traditionally male name. Running Eagle was a renowned hunter, and she led many successful hunting parties for the safety and prosperity of her people. The falls at the end of the path are named after her.
